What's New?
I have recently completed the following courses to supplement my growing experience in the world of secondary education:
EGL 440: Performance and
Technology
This course explores the teaching of literature and composition through the use of performance and technology. We initially focused much of the performance component on teaching Shakespeare, looking particularly at the standard plays taught in high school. We applied performance techniques to other plays, poetry, short stories, novels, and several non-fiction pieces. We also weaved in a "teaching literature with film" strand.
WRT 392: Mentoring Writers
This course supplements traditional coursework with a practical fieldwork component. We learned with the pretense that the best way to learn techniques and methods for teaching writing and to develop our own teaching/tutoring philosophy is to actually do the work of mentoring writers. In addition to working with WRT 102 students, we read and wrote about course material that has been introducing us to the field of Composition and the major theories that provide the foundation for contemporary professional writing instruction.
